The Meal with a Mentor, an annual event hosted by Finafinau, provided an opportunity to strengthen relationships and networks between youth and professionals adults from various sectors within American Samoa as they offer guidance and support relevant to students' career interests and offer advice in achieving their future goals. The goal of this event is to provide a safe space for both mentors and mentees to share their thoughts, concerns, and ambitions. This event has proven to be a fantastic way to empower youth through community guidance.
Testimonials
I have had the honor to participate in two Meal with a Mentor events hosted by Finafinau. Through these, I have had the opportunity to meet two wonderful and bright young adults. I have been able to mold friendships with my mentees beyond the initial meals with them. I recently was able to visit with one of my them to share a meal and offer some advice before she heads of to college! I am so proud of both of my two young friends. I hope they have learned from me as much as I have learned from them. They have increased my faith and confidence in the future of this territory. This experience as a mentor has also been a great way to rejuvenate the soul and give a fresh and youthful perspective on life. I highly recommend anyone to take the time to participate in the next Meal with a Mentor. I know I will be there!

Testimonials
I am a former high school student and one of the few kids who were able to experience the first Meal with a Mentor event that started in Samoana’s school cafeteria. It didn’t sound like much at first but it was a journey step I didn't know I needed and wanted and I know the other mentees can agree. Your mentor, the soul that sits before you, will double as a passport and GPS to help you navigate through decisions and times of uncertainty - they can help you. I was able to take part in both the first and second Meal with a Mentor events. My first mentor was Mr. Archie Soliai and through the second Meal with a Mentor, I was introduced to Mrs. Ann Longnecker. The amazing part about meeting my mentors is that they listen and they share. Mr. Archie helped rekindle my love for reading, which was an important part of me and I am glad to have a mentor that was so willing to share with me books from his library so that I may continue to venture into this passion of mine. Mrs. Ann is a testimony in my eyes, she has served as a nurse and midwife for almost 40+ years and she gave me advice on how to launch my own nursing career. She told me how I could travel and help people, while also encouraging me in other career options I am exploring such as starting my own business. For my fellow mentees and future mentees, your mentor will be your guide for the career you’re choosing to pursue or that you will later on begin when you find the one for you, they become the friend you need.
